Avery Solberg

Character Designer

I design people worth remembering — for games, animation, and worlds that don't exist yet.

01

Kestrel Vane

Airship Courier · The Shattered Coast

Kestrel flies the mail routes nobody else will take — the storm lanes over the Shattered Coast, where the wind reads like static. She trusts her balloon rigging more than most people, and has renegotiated with three different sky-pirate crews using nothing but a flare gun and a very good bluff.

  • Reckless
  • Loyal to a fault
  • Reads weather like text
  • Terrible at landings

02

Marrow Finch

Bone Witch · The Hollow Fen

Marrow speaks to what's left behind — the fen's old bones, its drowned roads, the things people bury and hope stay buried. She isn't cruel about it, just professionally unbothered by death in a way that unsettles her clients more than the magic does.

  • Unbothered
  • Collects small skulls
  • Dry humour
  • Fiercely protective

03

Ember Cole

Forge Warden · Cinderreach Foundry

Ember has run the Cinderreach floor since she was fifteen, and the foundry still burns exactly the way she likes it — a little too hot, a little too fast. She talks with her hands even when they're full of tongs, and every apprentice she's trained swears by her, loudly, to anyone who'll listen.

  • Short fuse
  • Master craftsworker
  • Overprotective of apprentices
  • Bad at resting

04

Thistle Grey

Wayfinder · The Long Moor

Thistle has walked every mile of the Long Moor at least twice, once in each direction, and still stops to double-check the moss. Caution kept the last three expeditions alive; it also makes her insufferable to travel with, by her own admission, before the third day out.

  • Methodical
  • Quietly funny
  • Never lost
  • Chronically early

05

Vesper Loom

Dream Cartographer · The Unsleeping City

Vesper maps the districts of the Unsleeping City that only exist between 2 and 4 a.m., charging in favours instead of coin because nobody has figured out what dream-currency should look like yet. Her notebooks contradict each other constantly. She considers this accurate.

  • Contradictory on purpose
  • Night owl
  • Trades in favours
  • Impossible to surprise

06

Old Salt Bramble

Tideclock Keeper · Port Merrow

Bramble keeps the tideclock that Port Merrow's whole harbour runs on — a job he inherited, resented, and now would not give up for anything. Sailors bring him gossip in exchange for the true tide times, which he doles out one town rumor at a time, entirely on his own schedule.

  • Stubborn
  • Secretly sentimental
  • Trades in gossip
  • Never wrong about tides

About

I'm Avery Solberg, a character designer who spends most days deciding what a person who has never existed would look like, wear, and carry — and why. I work across games, animation, and illustration, usually starting from a story problem rather than a silhouette.

Based between commissions and deadlines. Available for character design, visual development, and cast-building work.

The fastest way to reach me is email — I read everything, I reply slower than I'd like.
